Tour of the Rio Grande Valley

Q Cycle will be a sponsor of the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico’s Tour of the Rio Grande Valley (TOGRV) this year. September 18, 2011 is the date and the start is a stone’s throw (if you’re Josh Beckett) from the Q Cycle warehouse in lovely Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. There are routes of 25, 50, 65 and 100 miles all heading south from the Los Ranchos City Hall. Not sure yet what Q Cycle will be doing for the ride (riding?, mechanic-ing?, SAG-ing? or pitching our wares in a tent to the barely interested) but we will be there. Money raised will support the advocacy efforts of the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico or BCNM.

Las Conchas Fire update

It doesn’t have much if anything to do with cycling but if you’re anywhere near northern New Mexico (which we are and watched this blow up from the office parking lot on Sunday), this is a big deal, cyclist or not.

Las Conchas Fire|Let’s hope it rains soon

We were in the Jemez yesterday about ten miles from the fire’s start visiting an out of state friend’s property a couple hours before the fire started and blew up. Best of luck to all the fire crews on the line and in the air. Be safe.

SRT707 Touring Shoes Back In Stock!

It’s true. All sizes are finally here and ready to become an integral part of your cycling wardrobe. Some have called this shoe the Stelvio for no apparent reason but maybe typing that will help someone locate it. That wasn’t our idea, we think SRT707 is a great and memorable name.

Albuquerque Ride of Silence

Thanks to everyone who came out last night and braved the cold wind to silently ride the nine mile route in honor of those cyclists killed or injured while riding. There were 102 riders and quite a few family members in support. The Duke City Wheelmen Foundation ran the ride which started here at Q Cycle and did a great job of organization and safety. A special thanks to the Albuquerque Police Department and especially their bike patrol riders for clearing the way for the Silence riders. There will be a photo album of selected Ride of Silence photos on the Q Cycle Facebook page.

Exustar SRT707 Touring Shoe Update

They really are coming! All the sizes that we’ve been out of for months will finally be back in stock by the end of the month now that Q Cycle has worked closely with Exustar to put the SRT707 touring shoe back into production.

Ride of Silence, 2011

Duke City Wheelmen Foundation presents the 2011 Albuquerque Ride of Silence (ROS) on May 18 with registration starting at 6:00 PM in the Q Cycle parking lot; everyone who rides is required to sign a waiver. The ride will begin at 7:00 PM. The ride is free with donations accepted to cover insurance costs ($5.00 suggested). Helmets are required, lights recommended. The ROS is an annual event intended to increase awareness of bicycles on the road for those behind the wheel. It commemorates those cyclists killed or injured in crashes with motor vehicles while riding. For more information on the national event and specific directions for your local events, go to:
